This collection consists of the papers of the Steamship Savannah Replica Commission. Included are the minutes, official papers, and correspondence; a copy of The Pioneer Steamship Savannah: A Study for a Scale Model by H.I. Chapelle; answers to a questionnaire and other correspondence from maritime museums and organizations relating to ship replicas and ship museums, including a photograph of the model of the SS Savannah in the Mariners' Museum, Newport News, Virginia; pamphlets; and drawings. The papers are in their original arrangement.

The Steamship Savannah Replica Commission was established by an Act of the Georgia General Assembly in 1963. Its purpose was to promote the building of a replica of the original steamship Savannah of 1818 (the first steam vessel to cross the Atlantic Ocean).
